Interpretation Services
Interpretation services are provided as spoken communication into and from English and a non-English foreign language. Interpretation can be provided in either consecutive or simultaneous modes, and in three types of settings or modalities: on-site and in-person, telephonic or over-the-phone, and video remote interpretation. Interpretation services are provided for appointments, interviews, and meetings, with groups or individually with limited-English proficient (LEP) clients receiving or accessing services.

Formatting and layout of translated documents so that they appear as a “mirror-image” and look as similar as possible to the original source document.
Translation Services
Written translation services include converting into and from English and a non-English foreign language, any written, electronic, and multimedia material. Translation services include formatting, editing, proofreading, and quality control measures.

Labor Category Descriptions
Consecutive Interpreter
The Interpreter is present in-person, by telephone, or by video, to perform consecutive interpretation. The interpreter listens to communication in the source language and orally converts it into the target language while retaining the meaning of the message. The interpreter working in the consecutive mode performs interpretation in the pauses after an utterance and does not speak while others are talking. The interpreter will occasionally signal for speakers to start or stop, in order to ensure understanding by all parties. The interpreter adheres to the national code of ethics and standards of practice including client confidentiality, accuracy, impartiality, professionalism, and respect. The qualified interpreter has skills and knowledge regarding the roles of the interpreter, managing the interpreted session, and culture.
Simultaneous Interpreter
The interpreter is present in-person, or video, to perform simultaneous interpretation. The interpreter listens to communication in one language and orally converts it into another language while retaining the meaning of the message. The interpreter working in simultaneous mode, performs the interpretation contemporaneously with the speaker whose words are being interpreted. A simultaneous interpretation occurs without any pauses since the interpreter and speaker are talking at virtually the same time. Simultaneous interpreters may require the use of special equipment, such as headsets or interpreter booths, or may need to work via an online platform. The interpreter adheres to a code of ethics including client confidentiality.
American Sign Language Interpreter
The interpreter is present by video, to perform American sign language interpretation for communication with a deaf or hard of hearing client.
Translator
Provides written translation from source language to target language. Has demonstrated proficiency in writing and understanding both English and at least one other written, non-English language. Able to translate effectively, accurately, and impartially to and from their professional working languages using any necessary specialized vocabulary, and terminology. Adheres to ethics principles including client confidentiality and accuracy.
